When Is the Best Time for Turfing?
You can, theoretically at least, turf your garden any time of year. You’ll have less success, however, when the weather is at extremes.
In Edinburgh and Lothians, that certainly means you should not try it during the winter when the weather is at its coldest and most inclement. Grass needs certain conditions to bed in properly. The best times are spring or autumn because the weather is warm enough and installation is balanced by the amount of rain we have.
Summer is a possibility, but you should take into account how much your garden will be used. For the most part, you don’t want people walking around on the newly laid turf or kids playing about until it has properly bedded in.
