Types of Fencing Design
The design of your fencing or gate is almost as important as the material. You want something that matches your home and garden and looks fantastic. Again, there are a lot of options here and it’s worth taking your time and talking to our landscaping team.
- Close-board or feather board fencing is very traditional and is a good medium budget option for back gardens. It’s robust and lasts a long time and is perfect for pet owners. Because the slats are closed, they can be buffeted by strong winds so location is a consideration.
- Palisade or picket fencing is largely decorative and most suitable for front gardens. It’s a more ‘romantic’ choice than functional but is great if you want to define the boundary of your home. It’s not the best option if your primary motivation is privacy.
- If you’re looking for a more contemporary look, slatted fencing where the boards run horizontally and have a gap between them might be more appropriate. These are great for windy areas and many people see them as modern and attractive.
- If the wind is a problem in your Edinburgh or Lothians garden, hit and miss fencing can also be the right choice. This means that boards alternate behind and in front of the post to create a gap while still giving you privacy.
These are just a few of the options and there are plenty more out there, including fencing that combines trellising if you want to grow bushes and other plants.
